Lectures on the History of the Qin and Han Dynasties - The Qin and Han Dynasties
◉ Deeply revealing how the framework of Chinese civilization was laid down in the Qin and Han dynasties
This book is based on the course “History of the Qin and Han Dynasties” taught by Qin Hui at Tsinghua University, with the addition of archaeological data discovered in recent years, and has been revised after several rounds of organization.
Unlike the original classroom recordings, this book contains nearly twice as much content as the transcripts. Moreover, unlike traditional intergenerational histories, this book skims the surface of political history and explores the origins of the political and economic systems and concepts of the Qin-Han empire and their influence in the post-Qin-Han period in two dimensions: longitudinally (Zhou-Qin, Han-Tang, and Han-Tang) and horizontally (Qin-Han versus Roman empire), which is of high level and of great significance for the present time.

[Editor's Recommendation]
Why is it that the most profound change in China's 3,000-year history was the “Zhou-Qin Revolution”? How did the “Zhou-Qin revolution” lay the framework for Chinese civilization?
◎ How did the most basic institutional arrangements of the Qin and Han empires come about? What were the main elements included? What were the shortcomings that arose from the operation of the system? How did the accumulation of these problems lead to the disintegration of the Qin-Han empire?
◎ Why is there a huge difference in the historical evaluation of Qin and Han? What is the key point of contradiction? What insights can be drawn?
What should be understood by the “change of Han and Wei”? Why is it not as important as the “change of Zhou and Qin”? Why did it fail to break out of the pattern laid down by the Qin and Han dynasties?
How does the Tang and Song Dynasty compare with the Qin and Han Dynasties? Did the Tang dynasty surpass the peak of the “classical commodity economy” of the Han dynasty?
What does this suggest?
